Quality Blog Posting

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some learning around Quality Blog Posting.  We had to read the importance of the title, introduction, DLO, reflection, sources, question & write it down into our own words. After we had done that we had to make it into a DLO. When I started making my DLO I accidentally mixed up the reflection & sources. What I could do better next time is maybe add a bit more detail to my DLO. Have you made a DLO before & if you have what was it about? Thanks for reading my post, bye.

Movie Making

In Te Ngahere we have been making movies, for a couple of weeks we have
been learning to put our writing in order & use the correct structure with
story beats for the movie making. We had to get in groups of 3 but since I
wasn’t here I was in a group of 4 with AJ, Mark.S & Ataahua. The first thing
we had to do was plan our movie on a story beat, then we had to write our
script. After we had written our script we had to write down all the camera
angles that we were going to use for everything they say & do. We haven’t
finished yet but we just need to get our props ready & film it after we show the
teacher.
Next time I could do better by helping someone in the group if they get
stuck & do a bit more work. Have you made a movie before?
Thanks for reading my post bye!

Oral health

On Wednesday the school dentist came into Te Ngahere to talk about Oral health. One of the things I learnt was you have to brush your teeth in a circle motion so you get every side of your teeth clean. Another thing I learnt was that is if you don’t brush your teeth where your gums are you can get Gingivitis - Gingivitis is when you don’t brush your teeth up the top so you can get plaque & when plaque gets up the top of your teeth where your gums are it can make it swell up. She also told us why we have to brush our teeth at night - we have to brush our teeth at night because during the day we create more saliva in our mouth, example say if we see something yummy it will create saliva in our mouth & at night you create less saliva in your mouth because you can’t see anything. Saliva is good for your teeth because it keeps your teeth strong. She also let 2 people put this stuff on their teeth that makes their plaque change colors. If they have 3 - 4 day old plaque it will be dark blue, if they have 2 day old plaque it will be light blue & if it is purple it will be 1 day old plaque. After she left we had to make a DLO or a poster about what we learnt, here is my DLO.

Story beats

In Te Ngahere we have been doing story beats. We are learning to do story beats so when we do our writing it is in order & the structure is correct. Story beats are the main parts of a story. for example in Nemo it would be set out like:

Once upon a time…   there was a fish named Marlin who loved to son Nemo more than anything.
Every day…               Marlin tried to protect Nemo from the ocean which he feared.
Until one day…           until one day Nemo was taken away by a scuba diver.
Because of this…      Marlin had to leave the safety of his home reef in order to find his son.
Because of that…     Marlin ran into sharks, jellifish & other dangers.
Because of that…     Marlin was forced to take a leap of faith.
Until finally…             Marlin learned to let go of his fear & trust that Nemo had what it takes to free dory from the fishing net.
And ever since then…   Marlin gave his son Nemo the space he needed to learn on his own.
The moral of the story is…  parents need to let go in order for their kids to grow up.

All of these are story beats because they are the story broken down into short sentences & then you add the extra detail.

Te Reo Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been learning Te Reo Maori. We made an animation.
We had to work in our writing buddies or by ourselves. I decided to work with
my writing buddy Ataahua. Because we only knew afew words the hardest part
was trying to memorize all the words.  Here is an example of what we had to do
I say “He aha tenei “& Ataahua will say “He pene rakau Tena”, he aha tenei means
what is this & he pene rakau Tena means that is a pencil or whatever else I’m holding.
Next time I  could do better by helping Ataahua if she gets stuck.

Cross - Country

Last week on Friday the school did cross country at Bledisloe Domain.
First the five year old boys went, then the 5 year old girls, then the 6
year old boys, then the 6 year old girls & so on. Before the race I was
craving nachos but I was going to get them after I raced. When it was
our turn I ran to the second soccer goal then started to jog. Once I was
halfway up the hill I started to get quite tired. I walked for about 5 seconds,
then Mr Ngata & Matua Pep kept encouraging me to run. So I ran up the hill,
I was happy because I was about to get on the flats but the flats weren't even
flat, there were little hoove holes in the ground from the horses which just
made it harder. Once I got to Whaea Becks I got excited because it was
downhill the rest of the way, when I got down to the bottom of the hill I
tripped & nearly fell face flat into horse poo, luckily I didn’t. I jumped over
the fence & started to get a bit worried thinking the people behind me were
going to beat me, so I boosted past the finish line, I came 6th place, then I went
to go get some nachos & they were out so I got a sausage & juice instead. Because
we don’t do school events like that very often I really enjoy it every time.
