Design our class!

In Te Ngahere we have been designing our class for a couple of weeks now.
We are doing this because our class is called Te Ngahere & that means the
bush, right now our class looks boring. The first thing we had to do was think
of something that lives in the bush & draw our design. We had to think of the
materials that we were going to use to make our design & how we were going
to make it look 3D. I chose to make a kiwi, I chose to make the kiwi out of a few
layers of cardboard. At first I was going to do a few layers of the feet but it
became to hard so I only did 1 layer. Once I had glued all the layers together
I started to paint it, I tried to make it look like actual feathers by making lighter
shades of brown. As I was letting it dry the teacher said that we had to make 2.
So today I am going to work on my second one.

Technology

On Wednesday the year 7’s & 8’s went to Technology at Moerewa school.
All of the year 8’s did cooking but some year 7’s got to do cooking ( But not me).
Because I am a year 7 I got to do woodwork. At the start I got kind of upset
because I really wanted to do cooking & all my friends were doing cooking.
When we started doing it we had to draw 3 designs & choose 1 of them to
make into a piece of jewelry. I chose to make a wave, once I had gotten it
checked by the teacher I got a 6x6cm piece on wood. I then drew it on the
wood & cut it out using a skill saw. After that we were going to get 2 pieces
of wood the same size & put one on each side then melt the metal & put it in
the gap, wait for it to harden then take it out, make a hole & wear it as a piece
of jewelry. We didn’t have time to do that though so we are going to do that next
time we go to technology.

Turbo Touch

In Te Ngahere we play a game called Turbo Touch a couple times a week. To play you need a few groups of 4 or more & a rugby ball. You can pass the ball any way, it does NOT have to be sideways. You have to try & get the ball into your goal & you cannot hold the ball for the whole time, you have to pass at least 2 times before scoring. If someone touches you with 2 hands then you touch & have to pass the ball within 2 seconds to someone on your team, if they touch you with 1 hand it doesn’t count, nothing happens. But If you drop the ball it is an immediate handover to the opposing team. What I could of done better was pass the ball a bit more instead of just holding it.

Technology

Last week on Wednesday the year 7’s & 8’s went to Technology, The year 8’s
did cooking while we were doing woodwork. Our Teacher was Mr Edwards.
For the first half of the day we were just learning how everything works, how to
use power tools & we did 2 tests, 1 test was about 8 pictures of some of the
tools we used & about 20 different names, we had to write down which tool
was what. The other test was about the rules we had to finish the sentence of
the rules. In the middle block we got to have a little play around with everything,
we were allowed to make anything we wanted. We were handed a small piece
of wood & we could do whatever we wanted with it. If you didn’t want to draw
we were allowed to use traces that he had made from wood. I chose to draw,
I decided to do a feather. Since I was struggling to cut it out into a smaller
shape I just left it as a rectangle & painted over top of it. What I could do better
next time is not get so mad when something doesn’t work.
Have you ever done woodwork before?

Place Value Game

On Friday in Te Ngahere we played a place value game. In a group of 3-4 you
have to pick a number between 45 & 45,000, roll a 10 sided dice 10 times and
get as close to the number as possible to try & win the game. In my group was
Breeze & Jade. You get 10 rolls each. Example, if you roll a 6 you would pick
6, 60, 600 or 6,000. But if you roll a zero you don’t make any moves.
You can’t do the same number 2 times.
Have you ever played this game before?
