Athletics Day!!!

On Friday the 22nd of November Paihia Primary School went to athletics day at
Bledisloe Domain. When it was finally the year 6’s turn we started off with a 200
meter sprint then a 400. After that we were all out of energy but luckily the next
activity we were doing was shot put & it wasn’t that hard. After we did that we
did my favorite activity which is long jump, we had to jump with a 1 foot take off &
a 2 foot landing, we had 2 turns each. Then we had a break so we got something
to eat & had a drink. After we did relays & then we did the 100 meter sprint.
Once we had done all of that we did discus. After we did that we moved on to
high jump I don’t really like high jump but I still did it anyway. At first we had one
practice round & after that if we knocked it down we would be out. Next we had
a break, we were going to do hurdles after the break but instead we just left.
What I could do better next time is try harder.
What is your favorite activity?

Illusional art

Last week in Te Ngahere we started doing some art. First we had to draw
6 intersecting lines. After we did that we had to draw curves going up on
every second triangle. Then in the triangles that hadn’t been filled in we drew
curves going down. After we did that we had to carefully go over it with vivid.
Next we picked 2 colors & colored every second line in the up curves with 1
color. Then we did the same but with the down curves & a different color.
After we did that we had to do shading of the same color where we didn’t
colored in. What I could do better is try harder & don’t rush because my art
didn’t turn out as well as I think it would just to be ahead.
Have you ever made any type of illusional art before?

Here is mine!

3D hand art

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some 3D hand art. We traced around our
hand with pencil then we drew straight lines around the outside our hand. After
we did that we drew curved lines in the inside of our hand connecting to the
straight lines we drew outside our hand. Next we carefully went over it with vivid,
once we did that we had to show the teacher & pick 2 or 3 colors to color it in
with. The colors I picked were green pink & yellow, I haven't finished yet but my
hand is already starting to look 3D. What I could do better next time is use the
vivid before I color it in because I went out of the lines a lot.
Have you ever made any sort of 3D art before?

Tessellation DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some art around Tessellation.
We were doing this because we have been doing some math
around translating & rotation. Tessellation is a pattern that repeats
without any gaps. What I could do better next time is try harder and if
I need help ask for it. We had to make a DLO about what Tessellation
is and how you use and create Tessellation. Here is my DLO.
Have you ever made Tessellation before?

Healthy Eating with Gina (the for food groups)

On Monday Whaea Gina came into Te Ngahere to talk to us about the 4 food groups. The 4 food groups are: milk & milk products, meat & protein foods, fruit & vegetables & brain / grain foods. These food groups are all special, milk & milk products are special because milk helps your bones grow stronger & grain foods are special because they help you think. Then we had to make a DLO on why the food groups are special. I really enjoyed Whaea Gina coming & I hope she can come again. Do you have any other reasons why the food groups are special?

Duffy Show

On Friday there was a Duffy show at Paihia School. The names of the people
in the play were Duffy, Sam, the Puzzler and the Dismantler. When we walked
into the Whare Duffy was playing his Guitar and everybody was laughing.
Once everybody had gotten into the Whare they introduced themselves and
started the play. The play started with Duffy playing a game called Magic Bricks
with Sam and then his mum told his that he was going to Sam’s house. Once
Duffy got to Sam’s house he kept trying to gets Sam’s attention but she kept
ignoring her, so he decided to put on grandma’s glasses and do a funny dance.
Then Sam said “DUFFY your not supposed to touch those glasses” so Duffy
said “Why, what’s going to happen?” Sam said “I don’t know”. Then Duffy
started pixelating and went inside the game. Then there were 4 outfits,
he picked the one with the square muscles. Then he started building a
spiral staircase, then the Dismantler came along and ruined Duffy’s spiral
staircase, then started chasing Duffy because he had square muscles. So
Sam told Duffy to change his skin because the squares were attracting the
Dismantler, so he changed his outfit to a yellow bird. Then the Dismantler
called him a fluffy chicken so he said “NO my name is Duffy” then the
Dismantler called him a Duffy chicken. The show was very funny,
I don’t really remember what else happened but I still really enjoyed the show.
My favorite part was when the Dismantler was chasing Duffy around the hall
of mirrors, it was really funny.

PE / Athletics (Shot Put)

On Friday the 1st of November we did PE. There were 5 teams, I was in team 3
and we did shot put with Whaea Chrissy. First we practiced how to throw a
shot put, I learnt how to throw a shot put, you have to bend you back leg,
straighten your front leg and when you throw it you high five the sky.
Then we practiced throwing a shot put with a tennis ball. We all threw the
ball at the same time and than we threw them 1 at a time, we did that about 2
times each. After we did that we used the real shot put, before I had my turn I
held all the different shot put to see which one I wanted to use. We had about
4 turns each at throwing the shot put.
Have you ever done shot put before?

Doing reading about the Waitangi Treaty Grounds

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some reading about the
Waitangi Treaty Grounds. We had to write three reasons why
the Waitangi Treaty Grounds are special, who they are special to,
how it benefits people and how it is used. I chose the Museum of Waitangi,
the Flagstaff, Ngatokimatawhaorua and the Carving studio. I found out that the
Museum of Waitangi was opened on the 5 February 2016 and that there is a
new museum opening on 5 February 2020 which is one day before Waitangi
Day. I found out that the Museum of Waitangi benefits people who want to find
out more about New Zealand. I found out  that the Museum of Waitangi is used
to show everyone the history of New Zealand. One reason why the Waitangi
Treaty Grounds are special is because you can learn about the cultural
significance of Waitangi, even if you aren’t Māori. They also have a great
education centre with heaps of cool stuff like: Virtual Reality, Tinkercad,
Paint 3D and a whole bunch more.
Have you ever been to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds?
