Oral health
On Wednesday the school dentist came into Te Ngahere to talk about
Oral health. One of the things I learnt was you have to brush your teeth
in a circle motion so you get every side of your teeth clean. Another thing
I learnt was that is if you don’t brush your teeth where your gums are you
can get Gingivitis - Gingivitis is when you don’t brush your teeth up the top
so you can get plaque & when plaque gets up the top of your teeth where
your gums are it can make it swell up. She also told us why we have to
brush our teeth at night - we have to brush our teeth at night because
during the day we create more saliva in our mouth, example say if we see
something yummy it will create saliva in our mouth & at night you create less
saliva in your mouth because you can’t see anything. Saliva is good for your
teeth because it keeps your teeth strong. She also let 2 people put this stuff
on their teeth that makes their plaque change colors. If they have 3 - 4 day
old plaque it will be dark blue, if they have 2 day old plaque it will be light blue
& if it is purple it will be 1 day old plaque. After she left we had to make a DLO
or a poster about what we learnt, here is my DLO.

Story beats
In Te Ngahere we have been doing story beats. We are learning to do story beats so when we do our writing it is in order & the structure is correct. Story beats are the main parts of a story. for example in Nemo it would be set out like:
Once upon a time… there was a fish named Marlin who loved to son Nemo more than anything.
Every day… Marlin tried to protect Nemo from the ocean which he feared.
Until one day… until one day Nemo was taken away by a scuba diver.
Because of this… Marlin had to leave the safety of his home reef in order to find his son.
Because of that… Marlin ran into sharks, jellifish & other dangers.
Because of that… Marlin was forced to take a leap of faith.
Until finally… Marlin learned to let go of his fear & trust that Nemo had what it takes to free dory from the fishing net.
And ever since then… Marlin gave his son Nemo the space he needed to learn on his own.
The moral of the story is… parents need to let go in order for their kids to grow up.
All of these are story beats because they are the story broken down into short sentences & then you add the extra detail.

Te Reo Maori
In Te Ngahere we have been learning Te Reo Maori. We made an animation.
We had to work in our writing buddies or by ourselves. I decided to work with
my writing buddy Ataahua. Because we only knew afew words the hardest part
was trying to memorize all the words. Here is an example of what we had to do
I say “He aha tenei “& Ataahua will say “He pene rakau Tena”, he aha tenei means
what is this & he pene rakau Tena means that is a pencil or whatever else I’m holding.
Next time I could do better by helping Ataahua if she gets stuck.

Cross - Country
Last week on Friday the school did cross country at Bledisloe Domain.
First the five year old boys went, then the 5 year old girls, then the 6
year old boys, then the 6 year old girls & so on. Before the race I was
craving nachos but I was going to get them after I raced. When it was
our turn I ran to the second soccer goal then started to jog. Once I was
halfway up the hill I started to get quite tired. I walked for about 5 seconds,
then Mr Ngata & Matua Pep kept encouraging me to run. So I ran up the hill,
I was happy because I was about to get on the flats but the flats weren't even
flat, there were little hoove holes in the ground from the horses which just
made it harder. Once I got to Whaea Becks I got excited because it was
downhill the rest of the way, when I got down to the bottom of the hill I
tripped & nearly fell face flat into horse poo, luckily I didn’t. I jumped over
the fence & started to get a bit worried thinking the people behind me were
going to beat me, so I boosted past the finish line, I came 6th place, then I went
to go get some nachos & they were out so I got a sausage & juice instead. Because
we don’t do school events like that very often I really enjoy it every time.

Kildare maze in Ireland
A few weeks ago while we were in Ireland we went to the Kildare maze.
It took about an hour & a half to get to the maze, once we got there we were
super excited. We thought there was just going to be 1 maze but there was a
bush maze (that was really big), a smaller sized wooden maze, animals & a
playground. First we went in the bush maze. We went every way possible &
kept going through bush tunnels & kept getting lead to the entrance.
Clearly we had missed one path so I looked at the map & saw the to get to
the viewing tower in the middle. There were 3 dead ends then a staircase pattern.
Everyone else thought they knew the way but I lead us to the middle. Then we
looked out at the maze for a while & saw where we got lost, then we went out the
straight exit. Then we were going to go in the wooden maze but it made our eyes
hurt so we went to play golf. We asked Ricardo to go & get the golf sticks & balls,
he took so long so mum asked me to go & get him to see what was going on.
The problem was that there were only 3 golf sticks that aren't tiny, then mum
came up with the most obvious solution, she said that two of us could share 1 golf stick.
I got really frustrated on one of the holes because Ricardo took 27 hits before he actually
got it in, it was a steep ramp & then 3 tubes. Once we had finished that I went to go look
at the animals & then we went home.

Energize with Gina
Today around 12:10 all the year 6’s went to the whare for energize with Gina,
we were learning about which takeaways are more healthy. She showed us a
picture of a healthy heart & a unhealthy heart. We put all the healthy takeaways
under the healthy heart & all the unhealthy takeaways under the unhealthy heart.
Next we were going to play a game we had to walk up to the pictures, memorize them,
put the unhealthy takeaways underneath the unhealthy heart & put the healthy
takeaways under the healthy heart. Kaitlin’s group won first, everyone in our group
were wondering how they did it so fast. I really enjoyed doing energize with Gina.

IN PARIS!
Chapter 1 - On the plane
On Tuesday the 25th of June we got up at 5:00am & left at 6:00am, we had to leave at 6:00 because we had
to go to our uncles house so we could drop of our bags & put them in the car so he could drive us to the
airport. Once we had got to the airport we were really excited, first we had a little look around than checked
in our luggage. After that we boarded the plane & got ready for that 17 hour flight to Doha.
I wasn't expecting to get much food on the plane, but they loaded us about every hour or 2, I kept looking
at how long till we got there but I got board & started watching movies. There was an announcement from
the captain saying 5 minutes until we land, because it was a big plane I was expecting the landing to be really
rough but it was so smooth. Because our luggage was getting shipped straight to France we didn’t have to
re-check in our luggage, when we got of the plane it was 45 degrees celsius, the heat was instant. Once we
got on a little airport bus I was so relieved, it was boiling hot outside. Once we had finally got inside
the airport we waited 3 hours & got on the plane this `flight was only seven hours.

Chapter 2 - We are in Paris
Once we got to France I was so happy because altogether on both panes I only got 1-2 hours of sleep,
we arrived in France at 7:00am & we couldn't get into our apartment until 5:00pm, we didn’t hire a car so
instead we got a taxi on the way to our hotel there was so much street art we tried to get in at 2:00 but the
owner needed to clean up the hotel, he told us to come back at 3:00 so we went for a little walk & came
back at 2:30, went around the back & lay down on the grass. When it finally reach 3:00 we went inside &
expected it to be finished but Nope. We were all asleep but he still came back at 4:00 & finished cleaning
the hotel.

Chapter 3 - Going to the center of Paris
Next we were heading towards the center of Paris we got a bit confused because we hadn’t been on a train
yet, all the stops are in French & not many people spoke English, it was boiling hot. Than we went to this
really high ‘n’ shape, we climbed up millions of stairs & got to see the Eiffel tower. Then we went to get
some lunch at Mc donalds but I didn’t get my food, luckily when we told them they gave it to us & we also
went to heaps of cool shops. After that we headed back, we thought that we knew the way but we didn't,
so we had to get lost for 2 hours, it was terrible in that heat, it was like 43 degrees.

Chapter 4 - DISNEYLAND!
Once we had finally figured out where we were going & how to NOT get lost, because
DISNEYLAND was the last stop we had to wait a very long time because people kept getting off & on
the train. When we arrived at DISNEYLAND I was so excited, the first thing we were going to do was
go to the castle but then Ricardo wanted to got on this other thing, so we walked all over the place looking
for it but turns out it was really close to the castle, it said it was a 45 minute wait but once we were on the
ride it was all worth it, it was called Big Thunder Mountain. After That Had finished I wanted to go on
it 100 more times but his time it was a 60 minute wait. Next we went & got some hotdogs, they were so
good we went to the castle it was amazing, it had everything. Next we went on the Pirates of the Carribeen,
it was a 10 minute walk to the ride, a 10 minute wait & a 10 minute ride, it was really fun it was like a log
flume but with bigger boats & smoother drops, the pirates looked so realistic. Then we went on the merry
go round, for some reason it looked really fun & it was, then mum said that we could only go on one more
ride & we chose the spinning teacups, surprisingly they were so much fun you had to spin this thing in the
middle to make the teacup spin, the floor moved by itself.

Chapter 5 - Going on a boat cruise
The next day we went on a boat cruise, we had to go on 2 trains to get there, because we booked online
Scotties -phone wasn’t working so he sent it to mum but we couldn't zoom on mom's phone so I had to
take a photo of it but then I didn’t need to because they gave us tee tickets. After we had finally solved that
we got on the boat, we also brought a selfie stick so we used that a lot & mum bought a little Eiffel tower
& tiny key rings of the Eiffel tower. We also got to see the oldest building, it was 400 years old & the
Eiffel tower.

Chapter 6 - ???
The next day we got up & we organized things because we were leaving the next day, so we tested how
long it would take to get from our house to the airport so we knew what time to leave, it took about an
hour & a half (1 hour & 26 minutes to be specific.) Then we went back home.

Chapter 7 - getting on the plane to go to Scotland
The next day I woke up very excited to go to Scotland. When we got to the airport we had something to
eat, checked in our luggage & there was a 1 hour & 45 minute delay, so instead of arriving at 4:40 we
arrived at 5:30. Once our Taxi cme to pick us up, he took us to get our car that we hired but it wasn’t there.
We had to wait about 2 hours. Once we got our it looked very small, the boot was big but we still could
only fit 3 BIG suitcases in the boot, the rest had to go in the back with us.
